Kim Kardashian Was Literally Taped Into That Balenciaga Look

Balenciaga has long been by the side of Kim Kardashian as she underwent her very messy, very fashionable divorce from Kanye West. That seemingly changed last week when the reality star swapped Demna Gvasalia’s puffer coats and subversive style cues for three appearances in Prada. Despite our early misconceptions it seems Kardashian has returned to the designer’s knack for catsuits for a recent front row appearance at Paris fashion Week.

Unlike her three hot pink looks on the set of Saturday Night Live last year, Kardashian wore a full-length catsuit comprised of “BALENCIAGA” caution tape. Make no mistake however, this was no ready-to-wear style. Instead she was hand-covered in tape hours before the runway. Luckily for us, she shared a behind-the-scenes peek to Twitter.

Before you ask, yes, the beauty mogul squeaked as she walked. Videos of her appearance have gone viral as she attempted to waddle through the crowd – and we can’t stop watching. Sitting down proved troublesome too but in true Kardashian style, she made it work.

The layered bodysuit was also featured on the Fall 2022 runway with the collection paying homage to current Ukrainian refugees. Actress Salma Hayek was also in attendance and wore a royal blue and yellow dress, a tribute to the Ukrainian flag.

The taped look arrives after a string of Balenciaga looks from the celebrity that hark back to mid-2021. Perhaps her most iconic look from the Spanish-French house arrived at the 2021 Met Gala where she reluctantly wore a black t shirt-esque gown complete with a full mask. In February, long after the red carpet, Kardashian admitted she was unsure about the look.

“I fought against it. I was like, I don’t know how I could wear the mask. Why would I want to cover my face?” she said in an interview.

“But Demna [Gvasalia, Balenciaga’s creative director] and the team were like, This is a costume gala. This is not a Vanity Fair party where everyone looks beautiful. There’s a theme and you have to wear the mask. That is the look.”

We can only imagine what the Skims founder thought at the creative briefing for this one.
